Food That Talks...

Okay, for some odd reason, the past couple of days, this has really been fucking with me. (I think I used far to many commas there, Alabaster Mom?)

I know that I have discussed the dichotomy of how we treat animals in this country. How I don't understand how people are able to love one animal and eat another. I touched on it in here (and I apologize in advance for calling it schizophrenia. I was not trying to be offensive).

Here's the thing, apparently people have no problem eating any food that talks. I have seen two commercials in the past couple of days that are grating on my nerves. The first is a Mini Wheats commercial. It's this here:

Notice the mini wheats are talking, not only to each other but to the boy...WHO IS ABOUT TO EAT THEM. Anyone who has eaten with me, knows on occasion I talk to my food. It has never said anything back. I guess I would expect the boy to have qualms about eating his 8 layered friends that are so concerned about him. Or not?

The next one is a stupid Glade Scented Oil candle commercial. They are annoying for a number of reasons, but this one bothers me for the same reason.

In this one, she bites the cookies head off to shut him up.

I know most of you are probably saying that I am making a stink out of nothing, and they are just commercials and they don't really effect thinking. I beg to differ. I think it is just another example of how we are taught at a young age not to think about what we are eating.

In general, Americans don't think about where "things" come from. They don't think about the person who made their jeans or stereo. They just want to buy it, and preferably the cheaper the better. These talking food images present another example of how Americans detach themselves from the production of food.

This ended up sounded a lot dumber than I had anticipated. I'd say I was sorry, but I'd be lying. I really don't give a shit if you think it's dumb.

Never really thought about the food talking thing, but if you think about it, it's true. What I really hate is how these companies go to no end to sell their product. I mean their ads don't even relate to the product really, it's all just to somehow make you think you should eat it.
